Kate Oates is now Closed
Further down, you’ll find my full announcement & what it means going forward.
While this chapter has come to a close, I do have more than half a dozen patterns nearly ready to go.
When the time is right, I’ll quietly publish them, sharing each release within my newsletter.
If you’d like to hear about these final pieces, be sure to subscribe.
I’ll be teaching at The Biggest Little Getaway Retreat with Jimmy Beans Wool this June and registration is open. Future You would really appreciate it if Present You signed up. You know you’ll be missing me by then!
While my business has closed, I am still open to teaching occasionally for shops, retreats, and special events. I absolutely love teaching! If you’re interested in details, please reach out through the form at right as my prior inbox is closed and I haven’t yet replaced it.
Pattern Support & Communication
I can no longer any direct pattern support, and my inbox is not monitored for communication. At the request of many kind knitters, my patterns remain available for purchase but I am no longer able to answer pattern questions, provide troubleshooting assistance, or offer individual guidance of any kind.
Links to alternative support resources are provided below. You may also find help through a good old-fashioned Google search, knittinghelp.com, your local yarn shop, or the wider knitting community.
Thank you for understanding as I transition into this next chapter.
Join me in Discord
Spending time with other makers & the fiber community in general has always been important to me.
Though my business is now closed, I’m keeping my Discord community open because connecting with other makers has always been the most wonderful and rewarding part of being a fiber artist. The relationships we’ve built mean so much to me, and I’m excited to both keep that going and get to know even more of you. I’m also looking forward to being more present from here on out, with a little more time to pull up a chair and cast on alongside you.
Knitting is definitely the main language we speak, but conversations weave in the best ways. If you enjoy chatting about yarn, projects, other making adventures (gasp!), and the everyday happenings in your world, come join us. It’s a supportive, genuine, fabulously fun group. Share your latest cast-on, your frogging saga, a life update, or just pop in to say hello. Lurk a bit before jumping in if that’s your style. There’s no pressure, just good company.
Because I live with chronic medical conditions myself, our group is especially encouraging and understanding when life or health gets complicated. You won’t shock anyone by venting or by stepping out to rest for as long as you need.
If Discord is new to you, don’t let that stop you → it’s easier than it looks. I’m still discovering little features myself, and there are a couple hundred friendly folks ready to help.
This space has always been about connection and community and isn’t going anywhere.
A Closing Note
For nearly 17 years, I had the immense privilege of designing, teaching, hosting retreats, and building a community that means more to me than I can fully express. What began with a single pattern grew into hundreds more, into books, into unforgettable gatherings, collaborations, and friendships I will always treasure.
Some of my favorite moments weren’t the big milestones at all. They were the quieter ones: watching someone have a lightbulb moment in a class, seeing a finished project show up in the world, hearing how a knit became part of a life. And yes, BINGO too, year after year, somehow managing to knit so many of us together from all over the place.
Whether you knit one small project or filled your wardrobe with KO and TT pieces, joined me at an event, supported from afar, or simply cheered me on along the way, you mattered. You were part of this story, and I will carry that with me.
Thank you for showing up, for making, for trusting me with your yarn and your time and for being part of this community.
It has truly been my honor.
With gratitude,
