what to expect
when you’re preview knitting for ko!
I’ve put together this info page to include allllllll the things you need to know about preview knitting (pk) with me! I hope you’ll find it useful. but of course,
if you still have questions,
we are more than happy to help!
before I get going, let me just say that I appreciate my preview knitters so much! I do everything I can to make your knit a community process that’s encouraging & fun. if the project is a collaboration, I always reach out to the yarn company to see if they are able to provide a discount to my knitters. additionally, substitutions are welcome.
why do i call it a preview knit versus test knit?
you might see this as distinction without a difference, but to me, there’s a legitimate difference between these two types of knits. my knitters work from a fully edited &(most of the time) formatted pattern. it’s very rare that there are major issues in a pk. instead you’re previewing a pattern with the encouragement of the designer and my crewmembers.
my goals for each pk are to be able to:
incorporate any phrasing or formatting that is confusing
show off the design on a variety of beautiful bodies instead of just my own
show off yarn substitutions to help other knitters see what the design looks like with them
logistics
pk’s take place in my discord community. we have different channels for each pk, knitalongs & general chatter but there are two private channels for each pk. the primary channel is where the pattern (and any updates) is shared and where you can ask questions and interact with other knitters. the second is a feedback-only channel so that I can make sure that I don’t miss anything when finalizing the pattern. 100% of your feedback matters to me!
by the way, even if you aren’t ready to apply for a particular pk, you’re always welcome in my community. not only is It a great place to share your knitting, it’s also a place where you can stay in touch with what’s happening & where you can share whatever is going on in your life so that we can support and encourage you.
note: because the pk channels are private, you’ll need to join the general discord community before you can be added to them.
what’s in it for you?
as much as i’d love to think you’re just joining a pk because you love the design, I know that I do ask a few thinks from my knitters so of course, I do everything I can to reward your efforts. aside from trying to get you a yarn discount, upon completion of your pk requirements (below), you’ll receive:
the final version of the pattern you completed either as a Pdf for you to save or dropped in your ravelry library
a free pattern of your choice
a sweet lil 15% off discount to my boutique to use on whatever you choose.
you’ll also be included in the gif/reel that I create for my newsletter & social media, tagged with my gratitude
pk expectations
along with the fun
my expectations are pretty straightforward but for clarity, here they are! please do not apply to a pk unless you are committed to the following.
working the pattern as written at gauge, finishing your project (including a wet block) and providing modeled images & short video no later than the deadline. Often, I do provide accepted mods such as body or sleeve length, but Please note that gauge modifications will not be accepted (knitting up or down a size to adjust for not achieving gauge with your yarn choice).
Photos should be taken in a natural light, non-distracting background situation. Photos are part of your pk commitment, please do not sign up unless you are willing to show off your cute self as described (or are able to find an appropriate model that will fit the sweater similarly)! One of my favorite parts of testing is to be able to show off my amazing team on social media, and I am not able to do that without your images at release.
Utilize discord (free for you!) for all communication & be sure to check in regularly to make sure you don't miss any updates. redownload/reprint if designer updates the pattern itself.
no modeled images should be shared on social media until release. Feel free to post sneak peek images with the provided hashtags but Sneak peeks should only show partial images of your project
Use the yarn you specified in your application; if you'd like to switch yarns, please send a private note in discord so we can discuss it just to make sure it is a good fit.
Create a Ravelry project and link up once the Code is provided.
that’s it!
although I always hope that you’ll share your project on socials when the design is released, that is up to you!
