Stitch & Beach: February 18-22, 2027

from $3,100.00

Beachfront luxury, local artists & LYS, downtown Charleston, your schedule, amazing food and the best part…being with people that love what you love.

I’m approaching this retreat a bit differently.

Instead of booking a house up front, I’ll be selecting one based on early registration to meet our space needs. I’ve got a dozen+ list of fully vetted, luxury beachfront homes that are available for our dates and equally ideal for our event, they just have different bedroom situations. All are on Isle of Palms, per past retreats, which is a hop-skip from downtown Charleston. Instead of booking a house up front, I’ll be selecting one based on early registration to meet our space needs. In other words, register now if you’d like to attend as once I book the home, there likely won’t be additional beds available.

Images shown are those of the house that I’ve set this listing up for but all the homes on my list meet or exceed the gorgeousness!

REGISTRATION DETAILS

By September 30 (hopefully earlier), I’ll have the house booked based on early registration. I’ve provided the number of slots for the largest house that suits our needs for space while maintaining my luxury standards. Because I’m waiting to see how many guests I’ll have before booking the house, I’ve set up an installment payment. Unless you are 100% sure that you’ll attend the retreat whether you get a single or double room, please checkout with the installment option to prevent the need for refunds should I not have the precise room style you selected available in a different house. Here’s how things will go after I book the house ➴

If we need a smaller home, priority for the single rooms, oceanview & balcony access will go in order of registration time stamp. If you register for a single and don’t secure one, you’ll have the opportunity to receive a full refund minus service fees and skip the retreat or move to a double (I am not listing anything above a double even though there are rooms with more beds). The first installment payment for everyone is the same; I’m hoping to prevent the need for refunds should anyone decide to move from a single to a double. The images shown of the home I’m hoping we can fill includes double rooms with a King/Queen paired with a twin, so if you don’t mind a roomie, you can still enjoy having lots of space for your sleepies!

Unless I am unable to provide the room style (single or double) that you select and you don’t wish to move to another space, there are no refunds available unless I am able to find another guest to fill your slot. In that case, you’ll receive a full refund minus fees. This is primarily because the houses don’t offer any refunds once booked.

I did everything possible to make the cost of this retreat as low as possible and I hope you’ll join me. There’s just nothing like a midwinter break on the beach. ‍

In comparison with previous retreats, I’ve written out some “what to expect” notes below!

WHAT’S THE SAME

  • You’ll enjoy a luxurious beachfront experience & be spoiled-rotten throughout. If any little thing comes up that troubles you, come to me and I’ll do my very best to fix it, whether it’s by myself or calling management. You don’t have to do anything yourself other than tell me.

  • Flexibility! Everything you do or don’t do during the retreat is 100% your choice. Don’t feel guilty about skipping out on any activity. Walk the beach, lock in on your making, explore Isle of Palms, seriously…this is your retreat and you get to decide what you’ll enjoy, no notice required.

  • Get-to-know-you Stitch Marker Swap

  • Carolina Chef, aka our personal chef, is genuinely one of the very best parts of the retreat. I’m thrilled to have her & her team back for the third year in a row. Having someone feed you is amazing and everything else is the whipped cream & cherry on top. Plus, there are typically lots of leftovers from meals as well that we enjoy throughout the retreat.‍ ‍Sarah and her team have set the tone for each of my S&B retreats and do so much for us. They:

    • prepare unbelievably delicious meals—a daily brunch & dinner each full day excepting dinner on Sunday when we are in Charleston

    • stock the house for us before we arrive with snacks & drinks

    • incorporate all dietary restrictions and preferences

    • do the cleanup too!

  • Incredibly talented & well known local artists Corey Alston & Kristi Bishop will be back, also for their third time.

    • We’ll learn about historic Gullah Culture from Corey and then make our own sweetgrass roses. Corey also brings his brilliant work and you’ll have the opportunity to shop truly artisanal baskets while supporting a famous local artist (for real, he’s been in the Smithsonian).‍ ‍(I have so many baskets now that there is at least 1 in every room of my house! They are stunning and irresistible).

    • Kristi will be leading a workshop on Indigo Dyeing. Not only do we get to dye items ourselves, but Kristi gives us a bit of a historical and scientific perspective as well. This workshop was so much fun the first time we did it and Kristi provides practice swatches, tea towels and a scarf for you to dye. In addition, you can (and def should)‍ ‍bring items from home to dye as wellundyed yarn included. I will provide guidance on the best fabrics to bring for successful dyeing.

  • Anyone interested can come with me (or go on their own) to Wild & Wooly, the Mt. Pleasant LYS which is just minutes down the road. Last year they held a tea for us and I am pretty sure they will be happy to do the same in February. I love their selection of local independent dyers —and their location is super convenient if you lose a needle or need something that I don’t have with me.

  • We’ll enjoy a day in downtown Charleston with one group event (I’m still deciding, it’s hard with so many great options and I’m kinda waiting to see who comes so that I don’t repeat!) and you’ll be able to explore the area at will, based on your personal interests. A day in Charleston isn’t nearly enough time to see it all so you might want to plan ahead to make the most of your time.

  • I’ll set up a group for us after the holidays in my Discord Group. We’ll be able to chat about whatever and you’ll also have the chance to ask any questions.

  • Checkout is most likely at 9AM on February 8. We’ll have the makings for a variety of quick breakfasts and/or leftovers from brunches for you but as I won’t be letting you do any of the checkout procedures (remember, you’re getting spoiled! Let it happen!), I am giving myself an hour to get it done. Should the house have a later check-out time or they are willing to push it back for us while we are there, I’ll definitely let you know as soon as I do so that you can have a lazy morning.

WHAT’S CHANGED

  • I’m going to be able to hang out more! I’ve put a ton of work into my past retreats and the downside was that it translated into being busy busy throughout the entire retreat. I didn’t get much chill time with my guests. Since I’ve closed my business, this retreat is more of a knitting-with-friends-in-an-incredible-environment experience.

  • As a result, I won’t be:

    • providing retreat patterns (unless I can’t help myself)

    • teaching classes

    • partnering with a dyer

    • asking for sponsors. That doesn’t mean you aren’t going to receive any goodies…just not up to the capacity of the past.

    • providing the kind of extensive itinerary I’ve done in the past. You’ll still get one, but it’ll just be times & events instead of a tome 😉

  • Our Charleston day will begin with breakfast/brunch from our Chef at home. But, instead of having a fancy group dinner in Charleston, guests will eat at will—together, in groups or apart—whatever feels right. This allowed me to remove the cost of a group dinner from the overall retreat expenses and allows you to decide what kind of restaurant you want to go to. Charleston is known for amazing food of alllll kinds, so I honestly think this is a great change. You’ll likely enjoy selecting a restaurant that provides the environment and budget that satisfies your palette and makes you most comfortable. Forget me picking just one restaurant for all, do what you want! It’s not like we aren’t having the rest of our meals together! Some of the best restaurants don’t even take reservations.

  • Check in is at 5pm Eastern. Without a dyer who needs to set up, or much of my own stuff to put out, I am not booking the house for the night before your arrival. This significantly cuts down on retreat expenses and your fee. Whether you’re flying or driving in, there aren’t any planned activities for this evening because I know it’s hard to land somewhere at a precise time when traveling. Some of you might not arrive until late in the evening while others will be there at 5. No matter when you check in, there will be plenty of snacks around. If you prefer more of a full dinner, grab it on your way in or order delivery in once you’re settled. Dinner on 2.18 is not provided.

  • Bottom line: Most of the differences are simply that I’m going to be with you instead of working my tail off! I hope you’ll join me. I was truly honored and thrilled that there was so much interest in this kind of retreat.
